Bangladesh Music Industry
Its is very frustrating to see while considering the current trend of
musical industry in Bangladesh. Once upon a time especially during 80s and 90s
music was in the peak in the arena of enjoyment and entertainment. At tat time
music was passing through a golden time where releasing one beautiful single
track could made any singer popular and by that only song the artist became
financially solvent. Musicians like Ayub Bacchu, Laki akhond, Subir Nondi,
Andrew kishore, Runa layla, Sabina yasmin etc. The music they did are
considered as popular track in Bangladesh. The appeal and aroma of those songs
are still alive.
My concern is why music industry is in threat in the year of 2020. I
personally cannot blame one single person or one single authority for that. I
have diagnosed the following points for this blunder:
Fast moving culture:
The world is moving faster day by day. Bangladesh had to move forward for
keeping pace with that. During the golden time of 80s or 90s life was very
beautiful and people were peaceful without less frustration and expectation.
The single tune could touch the heart of millions. Coming into the year of 2020
life has become so much complicated. Political unrest and day to day struggling
life has created a barrier around human mind and for that only reason
today's music are grabbing the attention of the audience or listeners.
Inefficiency in music industry:
During the golden time musicians were highly devoted into music. They used
more than a year to write one song or compose a song. At that time software
system was not available and singers gave voice 5 to 10 times for recording a
full song and singers were too dedicated to take that hassle. The composers and
recorders were perfectionist too, they did compromise with tune, music, voice
quality and sound. Well, i am not saying that today's composers are not
talented, devoted or inefficient. Rather i will say they give less time in
composing a song, lyricist give less attending choosing appealing words.
Moreover they will have to follow the current impatient fast moving musical
race and trend. Besides some professional musicians maintain their livelihood
through music and for earning more in spite of having the interest of making
good music they give keen attention in doing music and only for that reason
most of the music is becoming ignored by the audience and sometimes a good
music becomes unnoticed by the listeners.
Piracy:
Piracy is the only reason for destroying the music industry in Bangladesh.
One time people spend a lot of money to collect one song and they had to
purchase cassettes or CDs to get a good album. Now a days people can get
thousand songs spending only 30 TK or sometimes free through the illegal
marketers and they are available in every locality. They are transferring it in
the memory chips of friends and relatives and consequently these songs become
available for free. We can track more than thousands of music in someone's PC
for free as people don't have to spend a single penny to collect a song now a
days. But the real fact is for releasing one song the production house is
investing a lot for singers and composers. Only due to piracy reason the
investors are not getting any return and consequently they are loosing interest
for further investment for new singers and music as well composers.
Considering the above mentioned issue the government and private authorities
should take proper steps to save the music industry in Bangladesh. We are not
late yet. Still we have time to resolve the issue.
